Our History
The history of our small romantic inn began in 1965 when a
Cleveland attorney purchased the property to build a "small" summer retreat. His
appreciation for the beauty of nature becomes evident with the open spacious architecture,
native cut stone, cherry paneling, oak beams and cathedral ceilings.
If you can imagine at one time the Main Dining Room was the
family’s living room. The loft area was a bedroom for his grandchildren and the
waitress station was their modest kitchen. As you exit the dining room the smaller
dining room was the Mitchell’s one bedroom, there was a solid wall separating
the two room. The foyer, now our reception area, was the Mitchell’s very comfortable
family room. The most eccentric room is our conference room which at one time
was a two car garage, paneled in the beautiful cherry paneling that is there today.
Our addition began in the mid-eighties and the goal was to
preserve the home itself in its original beauty and protect the rustic charm.
You can plainly see the back of the house as you enter our Breezeway which is
the beginning of our addition. From there you will see our most recent addition,
the Library. This is a very comfortable room designed for all guests of the Lodge
to enjoy a good book, conversation or gaze out the window at the natural setting
and wildlife.
The lodge began with twenty lodging rooms tastefully decorated
and with great amenities. In October of 1997, we opened the twelve suites we call
Riverview Suites located behind the lodge. Every
suite has a spectacular view 1,335 feet above the Clarion River. Should you wish
to see any of our comfortable rooms or suites, please ask. We would be happy to
show you everything there is to see.
